2011 Kawasaki z1000sx
-Was riding and lost all power
- Earlier in the day when before it lost power I would give it gas and it would cut out and come back
-Engine Cranks No start ( not getting fuel )
-When gas poured into intake starts briefly
-Just put in brand new battery
-Tried using a new fuel pump / filter
-All fuses and Wiring checked and looks good
-no engine lights or codes on dash
-Fuel line isnt clogged or kinked
-injectors / throttle body is less than a year old ( aftermarket )
  • Had dynojet commander 6 on when issue occured but I have taken it off since to help troubleshoot
  • Grounds look fine as well
-Brand new gas
- I also noticed quick shifter stopped working day of too, dont think this would be the issue though
The injectors wouldn't all go bad at once so it cant be them. Its getting fuel up until the rail just not getting fuel past through the injectors into the intake.

Couple thoughts: Each injector has a single line to the ECU but they all share a common wire. That wire goes down to the relay block as well as the other side of the fuel pump. If that was open, or the relay failed, none would fire. This circuit also goes to the kill switch. I've attached a 2011 Ninja schematic and highlighted the wiring for the injectors down to the relay box. I believe the vehicle down sensor also cuts off the fuel pump/injectors.

Many years ago a good buddy had a fuel injected VW. On his way home from work he was idling at a stoplight when the car died and refused to fire again. After a lot of head scratching the shop found that ALL of the injectors had clogged, apparently at the same time. Your last line triggered the memory because nobody thought all the injectors could plug at once.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Thanks for your response, I'll double check that relay again but it was all plugged in this morning. If that wasn't working wouldn't the fuel pump not send fuel as well? I was thinking maybe its a faulty sensor but that would send a code to the dash. May just check them all with a multimeter to make sure.

Didn't think to ask but is the bike showing any error codes? You probably have the service manual but if not here's a pdf copy:

No error codes through the dash. Yes I have looked through the service manual but no luck
Im thinking tomorrow I will double check all these again
Check Sensors with Multimeter
Check injectors with multimeter
Check front end of ecu connections / grounds
Check ECU Harness
Check Fuel pressure
If none of these work im debating bringing it a shop ( they charge $125 an hour for diagnostics ) or just to sell it as is.

You mentioned a quick shifter, or what brand it was. That bike didn't have one when it left the factory.

I would check any connection you made to hook it up. If it's a Dynojet, the power commanders do fail. The connection to the ground is also a sketchy area with these.

With j 2011, step one would be to open up the connector to the voltage regulator. It's in a terrible spot, right in front of the rear wheel. They moved it for the 2014 model year. I know you said you checked, but this is a common issue on this bike.

It should be a crime to not post solutions to these problems. I'm still guessing his problem will have "Dynojet" attached to it
