Question on our new slipper clutch?

Ok, so we carefully assembled all our parts, and duplicated what the new ninja and versus 1000 has. Right down to the goofy spring steel plate thing....

So, I pulled up a clutch diagram from yamaha 2015 r1. It's obviously the same slipper clutch, made by fcc.

However, it uses a normal clutch stack. Normal plates and the two small rings are used.

I wonder why the same base clutch uses such different plates. What might we gain from our way vs yamaha way? Jay....any ideas?

I may be forced to dive into mine again and try a normal stack. I have tons of parts left over to do so.

Also, from Yamaha's literature, this clutch is not like a normal slipper. My concours 14 is pretty easy to break free, and this one if not.

Yamaha described it as "slip equivalent to half clutch function"

I think I understand that, but at the same time, maybe not.

Kawasaki has used the double wide spring plate for a really long time. That's what they do.
That's what they use in the ZX-14. It's there version of the anti judder springs used in some bikes, or the freaking completely amazingly stupid piano wire used in some yamaha bikes.

I very much doubt that double wide plate is needed for most people. But I drag race, so I think I will keep mine. Even if I don't use it everyday.

That makes sense, or a big...So THATS whats its for! Its nice to know it might be looked upon as an advantage.

Speaking of a piano, my wife has a Yamaha piano. If you open it up, you cant help but see motorcycle. All the bolts and nuts are full on motorcycle quality, which may not be a compliment.
