Ok, so I've pretty much decided to get a 2014 Ninja 1000. While I was up in the frigid northern U.S., I saw a 2014 (blue) in a dealership. Priced at a very nice $10,699. Well, seeing how it was too cold to ride it the 1200 miles home (and it was snowing up there), and I want a green one, I figured I'd just pick one up down here in south Louisiana.
Go to my preferred dealer. Oh, he's not going to order any because he's pissed off at Kawasaki and how they make him buy bikes he doesn't want, waa, waa, etc. etc. Go to another local dealer -- they've ordered two, but have no clue when they'll get them. They don't even bother to ask my name or take a number to call when one comes in. I go to the website of another dealer who is about 90 miles away. So I do the internet inquiry thing, specifically asking about the 2014 Ninja 1000. Absolutely no response. Another dealer - also about 90 miles away in a different direction, says they don't know if they'll be getting them, or when !!??
I don't get it. It seems that dealers up north, where people can't ride in the winter, are getting Ninja 1000s, but the dealers down here can't or won't get them until spring !!?? What??
I already know, from past experiences with my local dealers, that if I buy the bike out of state, they'll ***** that I didn't get it from them, and they'll put my bike at the end of the line for service.
Maybe I'm just ignorant, but all this doesn't seem to be a great way to run motorcycle dealerships.
Rant over. Thanks for reading to the end (or skipping to the end).

I had an independent mechanic, but he has retired. Haven't found anyone else locally that I really trust.

Good idea to call Kawasaki and try to talk to the district manager. And in fact, I may know someone that knows him personally. Certainly worth giving a shot. Thanks.

gotta hold out for that candy green ;) couldn't you just get one of the local dealers to spec order you one?
One dealer that I'm fairly friendly with (although he's the one that's pissed of at Kawasaki), says he could try to special order one, but when it would come in, if it ever does ....

So, I'll travel if I have to.

It could be very worth it, i think once you get all the facts and info you need from them especially pricing it could push you to go through with it

you end up figuring it out?
No. I tried, but it hurt my brain too much. I'll start looking into things again in a few days after the holidays are over. Too many dealers are closed until after New Years Day.

Christmas Eve I did go and talk to another local dealer. They had a blue one in a crate. MSRP - no dealing. Was an easy decision to say no, as I am only interested in a green one. They are closed until Jan 3rd. They're going to check to see if their New Orleans store has a green one.

That's kinda funny, I could have gotten a green one at the dealership I went to, but held out for the blue one in a crate that needed to be setup first.....whenever I see a green ninja, it makes me think of the movie "Mask" with Jim Carrey.....I think the cops notice green more as well....

Bob, his issue was two years ago? By now, he may have found one, or died, any number of things.
