I am now a full member. The motorbike was purchased and ridden home this morning. I enjoyed the ride. The motor wants to run. Didn't pass 4001 rpms hehehe yet. Bike has about 20 miles on it. I havn't had a bike for almost four years..felt good to ride again. I have to figure out the shifter..seems i was double shifting...and it was not easily recognizable what gear I was in sometimes. I am going to enjoy learning all about it. It takes some effort to not go fast...........:D:D

Resist the urge to wake up in the middle of the night and go to the garage to sit on the bike.

Yea...I only slept about 4 hours last night..because i knew i was going for a 75-100 miler in the morning with a couple of friends...I had to dog it because i am trying to break in the motor respectfully..didn't go over 4500 rpms...bike performed flawlessly..motor has about 120 miles on it now.......
Congrats!!! Glad you're happy with the new ride. :D

Its already hot here in Florida. The love bugs are flying and forking up the bike and my body. I will be riding out tomorrow about 7 and ride into the sunset and check the motorbike lights on the road way...no love bugs then..........
Those love bugs are nasty & quite large. Certainly glad I'm home in NY after leaving sun & mid 80's in Florida,. It's mid 50's & raining here all week. How long is the bug season?

It's my opinion and some others that the "4000 rpm rule" is not as critical as some take it.

Here is an interesting view of the proper way to break-in the engine by Motoman for more power. I am not sure it is 100% correct but he does mention how most of us do exceed the 4000 rpm rule with no negative consequences. I know I did and got a ticket for going 92 mph or about 6500 rpm (trying to catch up with a friend with a Ducati) in that period, yet my bike engine still runs great 3 years later.

new guy intro

Hello everyone,

On Saturday, I traded in my Raider and ZX6R to get a blue 2014 Ninja 1000 ABS with bags for me, and 2014 Ninja 650 ABS for my girl. I've been looking for one bike that does everything, and the Ninja 1000 was the closest thing I found. I really wanted the Z1000 to work - based on the looks - but there wasn't a factory luggage option, and I didn't really like the demo ride that I took. I know both bikes have the same rake and trail numbers, but the front tire of the Z1000 felt vague to me through turns. I'm not a big fan of the green OR the blue this year, but... function over form.

Took another ride early evening here in Florida about 630pm...cooler and mostly bug free. I looked at the fuel gauge and it showed only the bottom electronic print. I filled up and took about 3.1 gallons..bike had about 125 miles on a full tank. Rode another +- 60 miles this evening bringing the upper limit to about 4900-5000 a couple of times. The motor just pulls like a demon...:D
