Mufflers should have been black.

Installed the Akrapovic headers on my '14 N1K and put the stock mufflers back on after I had them powder-coated flat black. In my opinion they look much better than the brushed aluminum matching up with the frame and the black plastic parts. Should have come that way stock. Would post pics but don't know how yet.

Agree. This color choice was not an improvement. C'mon people, Black is beautiful.

Where'd you find the headers? Did you consider having your exhaust ceramic coated? I've done that on my Yamaha FZ1 & am pleased with the result.

Revzilla has the headers for $679 or some such amount. Not bad. I want to do them next spring.
What's the advantage of ceramic coating the pipes?
Ceramic coating bonds best to the headers & resists changing colors due to the high temps.
I like the satin stainless. I don't want black. I like how quiet it is. The air intake how isn't as good as they want it to be. But I like the exhaust just fine.
So you can run the akropovic header with stock mufflers and not have issues with the OEM boxes ? How was the sound after the change ?

I will let you know in a week ... ;-)
Please Do! I hate seeing that nasty converter under the bike.
Yes, the akrapovic headers work fine with with the stock mufflers. I had to cut about 3/4 in. of the muffler pipe off to get the muffler mounting holes to line up. As for the sound slightly louder with a deeper tone. Not that loud at all. Advantages are getting rid of that ugly muffler box, loss of 9.5 lbs, cooler running bike, and I feel it pulls harder especially at higher rpm's. Not that hard of an install either. Definitely recommend it.
Did you need retune the bike at all ? Great info btw!

Thanks
Ran the bike for about 2 weeks before I put a fuel controller on it. Had no issues with the stock tune and the headers.
