Hello All

I am presently bikeless but I think this is the next. My first bike was a 66 Bonneville, bought it in 1971 when it had only 800 miles on it. Then a new 73 HD Super Glide, then to keep up with some of my riding buddies a new Ducati 750 Sport (SWEET), then a Ducati 750 GT, then a 96 HD Low Rider. Its time for a fast handling Sport Touring machine I can ride across State lines and get out Florida. Now.....time to plan the order. Don't call me grandpa..even though its true.......

regards to all

Welcome to the newest and most mature N1K forum known to the Greatest Generation.

So you reside in FL?

Usually mature riders feel more comfortable in cruisers. Like myself, I went from a cruiser to a sport bike. It seems the norm is the opposite.

Welcome and have fun shopping. I know that can be the best part of bike ownership (possibly why I've owned 15 bikes in 8 years). Or maybe I just have a problem.

Anyway, good luck and keep in mind, while the new '14 Ninja has all the goodies the '11-'13 ninja 1000's aren't too shabby and you can get one for very very cheap as oppossed to new.

Thanks For Welcome

Well...I sat on a new N1K today on a show room floor...I'm 6 feet tall and the saddle height allowed me to just about flat foot the floor when the bike was level. The salesman showed be the twist adjuster to squeeze a 1/2 inch or so in height if needed. I could feel the power of the bike without the motor on. This motorcycle would give me the same thrill my Ducati did ...some 29 years ago..I can remember...The salesman says I can test ride the green bike...oh yea..can't wait to set that up...the dealer wants to start at $11999 a little steep I think...but we didn't really talk yet...too be continued

If your dealer won't discount the sale price, then try to negotiate the hard bags and warranty and anything else you need (e.g., new full face helmet, etc.) into the original purchase. This worked very well for me.

I went with an Arai Signet-Q full face helmet. I can't believe how good it feels. I love this thing. It is the long-oval shape - a helmet that fits make all the difference in the world!

The seat tilts forward a tad and has hard edges. I ordered a Sargent replacement seat to fix those issues.

I am coming from a 2006 Road King Custom with 71K miles on it. Quite the shift.

NOTE: After the first hour or so of riding, I got used to the new ergos ( gripping tank a little with my knees during fast stops and not putting too much pressure on my wrists and keep elbos bent, etc.), I actually have to say that I find the 2014 Ninja 1000 to be MORE COMFORTABLE on my back than my Road King - BY FAR !!!

I absolutely love this bike and will never go back..

Can't wait to hear your thoughts after your test ride!
