Any downside to using fender eliminator?

Is there any negative effect to removing the fender with an eliminator kit?

Road Grime. Probably always there but now in a more visible location (you and the bottom of your seat).

Still the OEM fender assembly is probably the ugliest thing I have seen on a motorcycle, other than some of the riders :)
Gotta agree the thing is butt ugly.... you also lose that rear reflector, but you could probably figure something else out that's more effective, like a vololight or something.
I don't often ride on dirty roads or in the rain if I can avoid it, so I really like the fender eliminator kits. The OEM is horrible and also very heavy. I do prefer the Yoshimura kit even though it is somewhat more expensive.
it may be ugly, but it IS a very functional design. built to keep the spray coming off the center of the rear wheel, in addition to the regular grime that comes off.
If you don't ride in inclimate weather, you should be good to go...
The oem unit is mostly plastic.. while bulky its not really that heavy. The yoshi is steel... I think any weight difference is negligible.

The yoshi is about about a 6 out of 10 difficulty. It should be easy. But the instructions (when provided) have some mistakes. You will need to cut the license plate light feed to hook up the new... give yourself the maximum length on this. Because the instructions are incorrect. It took me 2 tries before I was happy with that cable and the routing of the cables. Putting the oem turn signals in is also not a finis job, grab them and jam them in.. no delicate way to do it (mind how you you remove them, there are washers and spacers that need to be put back the way you disassembled them). All said this is about a 2 hour job to do in one take. When its done I think it is the most attractive.. So there is that.

The moto dynamic fender eliminator kit was half the price of the yoshi and I had zero install issues with it. Dropped right in and has turn signal brackets just for the stock turn signals and a set just for aftermarket post style signals. It was also noticeably lighter than the stock unit and all the wires were perfect length. Only took about 30 mins to install.
If you go to ebay and order a ducati license plate frame....This one:

Ducati 749 999 License Plate Holder | eBay

It uses a rear reflector, and has built in side reflectors. Best of all, it has DOT approved printed on it. At checkpoints, I saw several get ticketed for not having side reflectors. Its lame, for sure, but locally, thsi is how we get treated.

I use the stock setup because is keeps the bike a little cleaner...but mostly it is visible to other moving objects around you........

Tickets for no side reflectors? Those were the first things I got rid of. Where do you live if I can ask?
Thanks for all the replies folks.

Same here... when I got into this sport I told myself safety before badassery. I figure taking that big ugly fender with reflectors off would be pretty badass but not as safe so I left it as is.
Put reflective rim tap on, way better than those **** round reflectors anyway.

I live in Utah. It was one of those random shakedown things where they were looking for drunk drivers. It was obvious they were searching for anything. He would have written me for not having them.
