A Minor Frustration With The Heat-shield

OK, first of all a plea not to hate me, but today I fitted a pair of Yoshimura R77 end cans (mufflers) & a K&N air filter to my '13 N1K.

Everything went really smoothly with removing the stock items and installing the new kit, right up until the point at which I tried to refit the heat-shield on the right-hand side. The whole process was an absolute pig, especially the front push-fit mounting which just did not want to seat properly. I then thought it was home and then secured the other push-fit mount and the bolt into the new muffler; however, I then gave the bike a bit of a test start with mild revving and a rubber grommet falls to the floor. The grommet was from the front mount and the front mount had fallen out, no matter what I tried the front mount would not go into place. The heat shield appears to be secure, but I am still a bit concerned that one mount is not in place.

Has anyone else had a similar situation or managed to get the **** thing to fit correctly?

You're not the only one. It's a delicate matter. I got it to work but it was so frustrating my subconscious erased the traumatic event.

Yes, mine was a pain. Keep in mind, its apiece of metal and can be bent to fit the mounting positions. I had to bend mine to have a chance at keeping it in place. It works well, now, but not before that.

Years ago I put a Yosh can on my 2000 VFR800. I thought I installed it wrong, but based on what I'm hearing here, and the difficulty of the Yosh tail tidy's, I'm starting to wonder if there's a quality problem at Yoshimura.

Norskie, nothing to do with the Yoshi pipe, it's the original Kawi heatshield. The rough location is right and having seen the other comments above it might just be a case of bending the metal mount on the heatshield.

On the subject of the Yoshi Tail tidy I fitted one and it was a doddle and looks bloody good as well, so much that on seeing it a friend ordered and fitted on to his ZX-10R!
