This site was very helpful in deciding on the 1000. At first I thought I wanted an adventure bike, but realized I'm too far from the back roads to really have the time. Tested a Tiger 800XR and really liked it, but something was missing. Next up was an FZ09, kinda fun, but the ergo's didn't work for me, wind blast was too much and suspension is not good at all. Fixing all that seemed like a waste.
Then I thought maybe the FJ-09 would work, I liked it, but the styling just wouldn't grow on me. At this point I realized sport touring was really what I needed and when I finally stumbled across the Ninja1000 (stupid name, prefer the Z1000SX), I knew it would be right. Thought about new, but it's a lot of money and I knew I wanted to address the screen, exhaust, tail tidy and maybe levers which would add even more $$.
Then I found a used 2012 with low KM's in Silver/black with Leo Vince cans that sound amazing, a Puig screen, shorty adjustable levers and a tail tidy!! It was like a message from above. 45 minute test ride later, I was hooked and bought it on the spot.
Absolutely love it so far! Last bike was 13 years ago, Suzuki RF900 and the Ninja feels like a natural progression, better styling and a little more punch, perfect. Only thing I want to do is change out the seat, it's not horrible, but I guess I'm too old to go without some better support. Looking at a Sargent, sounds like it should be an upgrade.
